Fantastic Mr. Fox

Mr. Fox

I must admit, when I first saw the trailer for Fantastic Mr. Fox, I was only mildly enthused. I remembered (but barely) reading the book, which is about a fox and his quest for getting chickens to feed the family.

I figured that it would be a nice rental when it comes out on DVD. However, then I started hearing a little more buzz building around the movie, and with so many stars doing the voices of the characters, I was intrigued. So when the opportunity arose to sit in on a conference call with Jason Schwartzman, who plays Ash, and hear what he thought about the movie, I took it. In lieu of me babbling on, the following is a portion of the conference call that I found interesting. Jason is talking about how the approach taken for the Fantastic Mr. Fox voice-overs was different than other animated films.

If you're seeing this, the audio didn't load properly.

Even though it's early, Rotten Tomatoes has 91% of reviews coming back positive. Also, for some reason stop motion animation always seems to catch my interest (probably because of the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer TV show). So should I go see Fantastic Mr. Fox? Are you going to see it?

This movie looks interesting. I just got an email about some recipes from the movie because I guess Mario Batali, one of my favorite chefs ever, voices a character in the movie. I might have to check this one out.

I like Batali's orange Crocs. I figure the movie has to be better than Men Who Stare At Goats, right?

I was in on the call as well. I really enjoyed his enthusiasm for the role and movie all together.

I was very surprised by his enthusiasm. He seemed pretty pumped, as long as he didn't just have his pr hat on.
